Morphological and anatomical resposes of non-water logged and water-logged tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) to kinetin [Egypt]
1988
Tomato plant responses to waterlogging for 4 days during vegetative growth stage were recorded and followed up during recovery period with or without exogenous application of Kinetin. A decrease of plant hight, number of leaves, number of internodes, number of side shoots, shoot fresh and dry weight were observed for waterlogged plants after 10 and 30 days from the end of waterlogging. Photosynthetic pigments content was depressed under waterlogging conditions. Plant structure of watelogging treatment showed a growth depession in comparison with control as indicated by stems and leaves structure. Kinetin application either before or after waterlogging treatment showed some potential to reduce the effects of waterlogging on plant growth paramenters, photosynthetic pigments content and plant structure, after 10 and 30 days from the end of waterlogging. Application of Kinetin after waterlogging treatment was more effective in reducing waterlogging effects than before waterlogging.
