Effect of defloration treatments on cotton yield [Egypt]

The investigation was carried out to study the effect of defloration treatments (leaving one flower every 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 days) in 1986 and 1987 seasons, using Giza 81 cotton cultivar. The data revealed that defloration treatments decreased number of open bolls and seed cotton yield/ plant. Plant height, number of internodes, boll weight, seed index and lint percentage increased by defloration treatments. Flowers removal had no effect on lint index, while its effect on micronaire and pressley was variable in two seasons. Protein and oil content was higher in defloration treatments in comparison to check plants.
