A computer program for measuring yield stability in crops

A computer program for measuring yield stability in crops is presented in this paper. The procedure is by pooling the analysis of variance from experiments conducted in different environmental conditions into one combined analysis of variance by using a method that is given by Cochran and Cox (2). Only those are having coefficient of variation less than 20 percent are combined. In case the variety x environment interaction is significant then continue to stability analysis, otherwise stop. The method used is that given by Eberhart and Russel (3) with a linear model: Yij= Ui + BiIj + dij; i= 1,2,...,t; j1,2,...,s.; Where Yij= = mean yield of the ith variety in the jth location; Ui = mean yield of the ith variety over all of the locations; Bi = slope of the ith variety yield respone to the environmental condition; Ij = environmental index for the jth location; dij = deviation of the ith variety in the jth location. To test the homogenity of Ui and Bi, and the deviation of the stability parameter from zero an analysis of variance as that is given by Singh and Chaudhary (7) is used. A variety is said to be stable one if the stability parameter is not significantly different from zero and the regression coefficient is equal to 1 (average regression coefficient).
