[Evaluation of a simulation model of evapotranspiration in corn and beans, for purposes of scheduling watering in Calera, Zacatecas]

This study analyzes the relationship among soil moisture content, watering coverage (lamina) and evapotranspiration in corn and beans, using both the model proposed by Palacios and observation data from three studies done in 1980, 1981 and 1984 at the "Zacatecas" Experimental Station. To evaluate the model for the aforesaid constants, a sensitivity analysis was done for the adjustment coefficient (KCi). The results for soil moisture content (HA) of the model partially agree with the data obtained using the gravimetric method. In all cases the model overestimated the values for this variable; the correlation coefficients were between 0.07 and 0.74. The watering lamina was recorded observational only in the 1980 and the 1981 studies, using volume lysimeters. The observed watering lamina was greater than that estimated by the model. The same result occurred for the variable total evapotranspiration. From the above, it may be deduced that the model overestimates water content in the soil and underestimates water extraction by the plant. However, with the differences between model values and observed values, the model is useful for determining evapotranspiration and predicting watering for corn and beans
