[Survey on peach and nectarine cultivars to single cut semi-dwarf genotypes]

The study has been carried out on 492 peach and nectarine clones with the aim to single out semi-dwarf or compact genotypes to be utilized in breeding programmes. Twig and internode length, chlorophyll content, mineral composition, area and stomata number of the leaves have been controlled. Frequently the semi-dwarf or compact phenotypes are characterized by a higher number of stomata and shorter internodes. No one of the investigated characters is constantly associated to the semi-dwarf or compact habit. Four semi-dwarf and two compact phenotypes have been found.
