Research plans are indicated for the breeding of characters in pop and nuna beans, which, like popcorn, can pop in response to dry heat or hot oil. These var. come from northern Peru and central Bolivia, where they are cultivated at 2100 m.a.s.l. and require less cooking time than other var. The relationship between the environment and the heat-related bean popping ability is currently being determined, since these var. lose that character when cultivated in places different from the Peruvian mountains
