The specific adsorption of Zn was determined in batch experiments for clay minerals and clay and silt particle size fractions. A Langmuir adsorption equation was found to describe the Zn adsorption. An attempt was made to relate Langemuir parameters to the mineralogical composition of samples. Particle size, content of humus and 2:1 structured clay minerals were the most important factors for the specific adsorption of Zn
