Ripening was evaluated in 419 hybrids from 16 selected crosses and in 13 parent cultivars. Pomological type, which was defined in accordance with the flesh firmness, was evaluated as well. Distribution pattern of harvest maturity had two peaks in the 2nd and 5th week of cherry ripening. Guigne types ripened one week sooner that the semi-bigarreau types and 2.5 weeks sooner than the bigarreau types. The basic quantitative pattern of heredity is modified by quality type that covers simultaneously the pomological type of sweet cherry fruit. This type of heredity is probably determined by interaction of 2 genes. For further study it will be apparently necessary to define the phenotype of cherry pomological types more exactly: this is the problem discussed in the present paper.
