Results regarding the influence of intermediate aerobic storage after unloading from silo on the digestibility of silages

Rising contents of highly digestible nutrients increase the risk of aerobic microbial conversion processes on silage unloading and intermediate storage. These microbial conversions lead to losses and to changes in silage quality. The results have proved that rising temperatures due to microbial conversion processes during aerobic storage would cause the digestibility of silages to decline. The results also suggest that such decline in dependence on the type and intensity of microbial conversion processes under aerobic conditions, and that changes in crude nutrient content and digestibility in vitro and in the fermentation products are not always parallel. Further studies will have to clarify the influence of metabolizing microorganisms in silages on the feeding value (digestibility, utilization, feed intake) of silages.
