The present work was undertaken to evaluate the impact of males on the fecundity and sex ratio of the parasitoid Trioxys indicus through its host Aphis gossypii on three cucurbit food plants, viz. Lagenaria vulgaris (bottle gourd), Luffa cylindrica (ghia torai) and Cucurbita maxima (pumpkin). There was no significant effect of male on the fecundity of the parasitoid on three host plants, but mean fecundity of the isolated female was slightly higher (164.5 (+-) 18.87 mummies, 144.0 (+-) 18.16 mummies and 51.3 (+-) 13.57 mummies on L. vulgaris, L. cylindrica and C. maxima bred aphids respectively) than the females mixed with males (160.6 (+-) 10.29 mummies, 134.6 (+-) 16.15 mummies and 49.2 (+-) 9.55 mummies on L. vulgaris, L. cylindrica and C. maxima bred aphids respectively). The presence of male insignificantly lowered the sex ratio (proportion of females in the population) of F1 offspring on L. vulgaris (0.51 (+-) 0.033 isolated female and 0.47 (+-) 0.038 in females mixed with male) and L. cylindrica (0.52 (+-) 0.023 in isolated female and 0.51 (+-) 0.055 in female mixed with male) bred aphids, but significantly increased the proportion of females in F1 offspring on C. maxima (0.35 (+-) 0.032 in isolated female and 0.54 (+-) 0.059 in female mixed with male) bred aphids. Thus, mummies (containing both male and female parasitoids) of the aphids infesting bottle gourd and ghia torai plants may be released for effective biocontrol without any detrimental effect of males on the efficiency of the female
