The influence of aquaeous extracts of Quassia amara (L.) on cereal aphids

In the present study the influence of aquaeous extracts of Quassia amara (L.) on cereal aphids in laboratory studies as well as in field trials was investigated. In laboratory 24 h after application of 0,5 per cent and 1,0 per cent extracts of Q. amara a mortality of the cereal aphids Macrosiphum avenae (F.) and Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) higher than 95 per cent was observed. Also in field trials in 1988 and 1989 treatments of wheat with extracts of Q. amara reduced the number of aphids per ear significantly. In 1989 about 10 aphids per ear were ascertained 24 h before spraying in all plots, while in plots treated with extracts of Q. amara 24 h after application less than 1,1 aphids per ear were counted, whereas in control plots 11 aphids per ear were found
