The effect of sprinkling irrigation on the yield and effectiveness of apple-tree growing was evaluated in the variety Idared/A2 in pilot trials in Southern Moravia. The yield of nonirrigated control was 36.1 t/ha and the yield in an irrigated orchard was 44.7 t/ha in the evaluated eight-year period (1982-1989), that means it was higher by 8.6 t/ha (23.8 %) due to irrigation. Irrigation increased the gross production profit to reach the level of 23.048 Kcs/ha, the average current price being 2.717 Kcs per 1 ton of apples. The total cost per 1 ha of irrigated area was 4.377 Kcs on the average of the years of investigation: direct costs made 1.671 Kcs (38.2 %) and indirect costs were 2.706 Kcs (61.8 %).
