Waste water influence on yield and fruit volume in a nectarine orchard in the hill region

A multi-uear trial on waste water irrigation after purification was conducted in a nectarine orchard cv. Flamekiss on a clay brown soil over soft lime. The experiment lasted 4 years and during bits course the following treatments were tested: effluent with drippers 4 l/h; effluent with micro-jets 40 l/h; effluent with drippers 8 l/h; fresh water with drippers 4 l/h. Effluent composition was stable during the experiment, low salinity, ammonium concentrations ranging from 35 to 50 ppm, urea from 8 to 28 ppm. Differences among treatments were found every year, but they were inconsistent. In every season in the course of the experiment, fruits in the fresh water treatment grew faster and were larger than those in the other treatments. High nitrogen quantities given through effluents and the fact that the biggest quantities of nitrogen were supplied at harvesting time did not affect fruit quality, neither did it postpone fruit ripening as compared with fruit supplied with lower nitrogen quantities and no supply during harvesting.
