Humidity, proteins and oil determination in whole soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) seeds by near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS)

The authors present and discuss the results of analyses on whole soybeans and sunflowers seeds regarding the content of humidity, protein and oil by means of near infrared reflectance spectrtoscopy (NIRS) performed with a monochromator. The derived calibration curves have standard errors and correlation coefficients comparable with those of calibration curves previous determined for meals with a filter instrument. The only exception was the calibration of sunflower protein, which gave only fair results compared to the other constituents, probably because of the very limited range of parameter variation in the available samples. With this new class of instruments, one can, on the one hand, confirm the specificity of some wavelength previously identified with filter instruments (e.g. 1752 for the proteins) and, on the other, take advantage of the higher-energy radiations, especially for oil, which are generally not taken into consideration with these instruments. The lines derived for the three constituents by plotting the analytical NIRS data against that for chemical analyses have slopes near one. In addition, dispersion around the mean is 1 % for humidity, 1.5 % for oil and 2.5 % for proteins. The derived calibrations give results that, in the large majority of samples, did not differ from the laboratory values more than 5% for both soybean and sunflower

Sono presentati e discussi i risultati delle analisi su seme intero di soia e girasole, per contenuto inumidita, proteine e olio, mediante spettroscopia di riflettanza nel vicino infrarosso (NIRS), effettuate conuno strumento a monocromatore. Le curve di calibrazione definite hanno valori di errore standard e coefficiente di correlazione del tutto comparabili con quelli delle tarature precedentemente determinate operando su farine conuno strumento a filtri.unica eccezione e la calibrazione per le proteine del girasole che ha dato risultati modesti in confronto a quelle per gli altri costituenti, probabilmente per il ristrettissimo intervallo di variazione del parametro nei campioni disponibili. Con la nuova classe di strumenti, daun lato viene confermata la specificita di alcune radiazioni gia individuate con strumenti a filtri (es. 1752 nm per le proteine), dallaltro, specie per l'olio, vengono valorizzate le radiazioni a piu alta energia generalmente non considerate in tale strumentazione. Le rette costruite per i tre costituenti riportando i valori analitici della NIRS vs quelli delle analisi chimiche, hanno pendenze prossime allunita. Inoltre le dispersioni attorno al valore medio sono 1 % per l'umidita, 1.5% per l'olio e 2.5% per le proteine. Le tarature elaborate forniscono risultati che per la stragrande maggioranza dei campioni si discostano dal valore di laboratorio in misura non superiore al 5% sia per la soia che per il girasole
