The browsing and general behaviour of indigenous goats in thornveld

The habits of indigenous does on redsoil thornveld, with special reference to feeding and browse selection, were recorded. Individual pregnant-nursing (PN) or non-pregnant-dry (NP) animals of the same herd which were three years old at the start were observed on alternate days and the duration of resting, watering, walking or feeding including that on individual browse species, was recorded. The data were used to assess the influence of month, season, and physiological state of the does on the time spent on these activities. Details of the study is given
