Seed collection and germination viability of two native honey producing species [Western Australia]
1987
Kessell, A.C. | Burking, R.C. (Western Australian Dept. of Agriculture, Perth. Apiculture Branch)
The loss of unique native honey-producing flora through uncontrolled wildfires is of deep concern to the Western Australian beekeeping industry. Two important species are Hakea trifurcata and Dryandra sessilis which are unable to tolerate fire damage, and regeneration of areas by artificial means are required to re-establish these species. Observations of flowering periods, seed production, seed collection techniques and germination are discussed.
