Earth mites and lucerne flea were included as part of an IPM program for 13 key pests of lucerne in NSW. This program was subsequently converted to a computerized decision support (expert) system (LUPEST) designed to store the large amount of information and to simplify the decision process. Although successfully applied to most pests of lucerne, the lack of quantitative information on earth mites and lucerne flea in this State has restricted control recommendations primarily to the use of pesticides based only on their presence and ad hoc estimates of observed damage
