Early research tended to concentrate on take-all (Gaeumannomyces graminis var tritici) while more recent research has included considerable work on rhizoctonia bare patch and root rot (Rhizotonia solani). There has also been a small amount of work on Fusarium crown rot (Fusarium graminearum), Pythium root rot (Pythium spp.) and common root rot (Bipolaris sorokiniana).
