Congenital spongiform myelopathy of Simmental calves [cattle]. [Short contribution]

The occurrence of a neurological disorder associated with hind limb ataxia and severe lesions of spongiform change involving mainly myelinated fibres of the spinal cord and brainstem of 3 Simmental calves is reported. It is likely that the cases of congenital spongiform myelopathy are a hitherto unrecognised disease entity in cattle.
