A collapse syndrome associated with Gram-negative infection in cows treated with dexamethasone to induce parturition [cattle]

The collapse syndrome, which is described in a study of 32 cows, is probably caused by an acute, clinically inapparent Gram-negative infection and endotoxaemia following suppression of the immune response. Escherichia coli is the most frequent bacterium involved. An effective treatment regime is given.
