[Evaluation of sweet additives (molasses, molasses-sugarbeet vinasse) and one biological additive (Ecosyl) in the silage of permanent pasture]

This trial was conducted over a period extending from November 1989 through April 1990. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of molasses-based fermentation-stimulating additives at a concentration of 40 kg/ton, fermented molasses at a concentration of 40 and 33 kg/ton, and Ecosyl (lactic acid bacteria inoculant) at a concentration of 3,5,g/ton, by means of dry matter losses via effluents, fermentation processes, temperature changes and nutritive value, and fermentative quality of treated silages. Silages (10 at 350 kg e/o) were made during a time span of 2 days (14 and 15 November 1989) with forage from a permanent pasture where ryegrass (Lolium perenne), was dominant (69,5%). Effluents produced were measured daily for 51 days and in them the pH, dry matter and mineral contents were analyzed; also, the temperature was monitored by thermocuples introduced into each silo. The results showed that the incorporation of molasses-containing additives had an influence on acid production, specifically lactic acid production and the ratio of lactic acid in the total of acids, apart from increasing the production of total alcohols. Effluent production was also stimulated, this being proportional to molasses addition. The use of 3% molasses, 3,3% and 4% fermented molasses and Ecosyl had no significant influence on the dry matter content, crude protein content, digestibility, metabolizable energy and pH. However, all additives showed a trend to increasing the dry matter and protein content and to reduce the levels of ammonia-N. Ecosyl showed the greatest pH reduction
