The occurrence of antibody to bluetongue virus in New South Wales, 2. Coastal region and age distribution surveys [cattle]

In 3 surveys, the prevalence of BLU-group antibody was highest in the north and decreased southwards; it also increased with age of cattle. The activity of viruses appeared to vary greatly between years, and to be geographically discontinuous. There was evidence that much of the antibody, especially in young cattle, did not persist from year to year; factors in the greater persistence of reactions in older cattle are discussed. Prevalence of antibodies to serotypes 1 and 21 was associated with location and age as was group-specific antibody.
