Generally, resistance to crown rust in majority of lines is controlled by complementary two or three genes. Independent genes are more useful in breeding programmes. In central Europe breeding programmes are based on the very effective gene Pc 39. In the near future it will be necessary to introduce a wide spectrum of the genes.
