The effect of differences in intensity and frequency of defoliation on the growth of Sirolan phalaris [cultivar] in the field
1989
Hill, M.J. | Watson, R.W. (New South Wales Dept. of Agriculture, Scone (Australia))
A 2-year-old sward was cut at 4 intervals from 2 to 12 weeks, at heights of 2 or 7 cm, between June and November, with and without additional applied N. High cutting during winter changed sward appearance, resulting in better yields at later harvests. Numbers of tillers in late spring were favoured progressively by longer intervals; and regrowth in the following autumn was markedly better at the longest interval, due to greater tiller number and vigour. A spring spell is recommended for Sirolan.
