Sustainable grazing practices in Queensland [beef cattle]

Results of a mail survey of 1200 individuals representative of a range of groups interested in beef cattle grazing systems in Queensland are presented. The groups included beef producers, researchers, extension officers, stock and station agents, bank managers, agricultural consultants and environmentalists. A large proportion of respondents expressed concern that present systems were not sustainable or who remain undecided on the issue. The results suggested that the groups have different views on the sustainability of present systems, the causes of land degradation, the scope for reversing degradation problems, and the key players in providing solutions.
