Cubed lucerne hay, oats and grain legumes and pellets as diets for export sheep. [Conference paper]
1986
Round, M.H. (South Australian Dept. of Agriculture, Adelaide)
Merino wethers were fed diets of: lucerne cubes; oats; oats and lupins; oats and peas; and pellets, in controlled conditions similar to those aboard ship. Sheep fed lucerne cubes or pellets maintained weight, but those on grain diets lost weight. Grain diets required longer adaptation periods and tended to produce wet and unformed faeces. Lucerne cubes may have potential as an alternative feed to pellets if the lower density can be accommodated.
