Stomach contents were analysed from 1774 individuals of 117 potential baitfish predator species. Of the baitfish eaters, 23 species were classed as major predators and the remainder were minor predators. It is likely that baitfishing has significant trophic effects on important artisanal reef fisheries. Incidental droplining in lagoons may have detrimental effects on subsistence and artisanal fisheries by removing fish that would be otherwise available for local villagers.
