Experiments showed that traditional quantities of calcium carbide, gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium) leaves, or rain tree (Samania saman) leaves used for ripening bananas are excessive. Identified optimal rates of application of the 3 treatments need to be validated under normal commercial conditions.
