To increase food crop production programme emphasis on self sufficiency in rice up to present is still to lead on the intensification programme that is "Supra Insus and packet D". A well-balanced application of NPK fertilizer is one of the targets to be obtained for increasing the efficiency. In macro view it is necessary to substract the subsidized fertilizers which have tended remain. Trials have been conducted in several areas of West Java to determine the responses of lowland rice to rate, source, portion and time of Nitrogen applications. Marginal Rate of Return (MRR) analysis indicated the presence of differences in responses of the rice plants to agro tipology and locations. The alluvial soil with 3-5 wet months in Karawang regions showed that the 90 kg of bricket urea which was given 2 times gave the highest profit. On latosol and gray grumusol soil in Cianjur, the rate of 135 kg bricket urea which was given 2 times or one time gave the highest profit. There was a different response between those on red yellow podzolic soil in districts of Lebak and Bogor. There was a tendency that the technical and economical efficiency can be made by changing the use of urea of prill, liquid or bricket in the farms. It is necessary to conduct this kind of trial in other agro tipology and locations to get more consistent results.
