Existing published estimates of genetic parameters for wool characteristics in sheep flocks, and their affect on wool prices are reviewed, and a number of previously unpublished estimates of the potential for changing these raw wool quality characteristics by selective breeding are presented. Recommendations are made on the likely need to incorporate these objectives into existing Merino sheep breeding programmes.
