A demonstration was set up using 3 plough types: Paech pitter planter; Bonel opposed disc plough; and small offset discs. Germination for all plough types was good, but later the vigour and size of plants differed greatly between types. The differences could be largely explained by the soil disturbance and moisture conservation characteristics of the cultivation types.
