The role of substance P in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice

There is evidence that Substance P (SP), a neuropeptide comprised of 11 amino acids, can modulate the immune system. It was found that intramuscular injection of SP into Plasmodium berghei-infected mice resulted in longer survival time of the host. SP seems to be able to suppress parasitic infection in mice
