Transplanting date, gibberellic acid and seed yield of lettuce [Apulia]

英语. Three experiments were carried out at Palagiano (40 deg 37' 45" Lat. North and 4 deg 29' 26" Long. East) in order to evaluate the influence of transplanting date (autumn and early spring), and rates of gibberellic acid (0-10 and 20 ppm) on seed yield of three cultivars of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), belonging to var. capitata (cv. La preferita or Capitan), crispa ("Great lakes 118") and longifolia ("Parris island cos"). Seed stalks, although present in all plants, could not emerge from the heads and due to this condition many stalks started to rot, reducing the actual number of productive plants. However transplanting during early spring more seed was produced in the first two experiments, compared to the autumn transplanting, whereas any differences was observed in the last one. "Parris island cos", showed the best yield in the first two trials compared with "La preferita". Yields of "Great lakes 118" because less plants per unit of area, less seeds per plant and very tight heads, was very low. Gibberellic acid promoted early flowering, seed stalk emergence and elongation expecially in "Great lakes 118", but had a scarce effect on seed yield. Much more information is needed to make sure about the time and rate of gibberellic acid applications and in order to take in consideration the possibility to repeat the treatment to foster seed stalk emergence

Vengono discussi i risultati di una ricerca triennale sull'influenza dell'epoca di trapianto (autunnale e primaverile), di tre dosi di acido gibberellico (0-10 e 20 ppm) in tre cultivar di lattuga, appartenenti alle varieta' botaniche: capitata, crispa e longifolia sulla produzione del seme. Nei primi due anni, con il trapianto effettuato in febbraio-marzo e' stata ottenuta una maggiore produzione di seme rispetto al trapianto autunnale mentre nel terzo anno non sono emerse differenze. Tra le cultivar, la "Parris island cos" e' risultata la piu' produttiva nei primi due anni ed e' stata superata da "La preferita" nel terzo. La "Great lakes 118" e' risultata sempre la meno produttiva a causa del minore numero di piante produttive m-2, della piu' bassa produzione per pianta, dei semi di peso medio inferiore e per i cespi compatti di ostacolo all'emissione degli steli fiorali. I trattamenti con acido gibberellico hanno fatto aumentare di poco la produzione, hanno invece stimolato l'allungamento degli steli e impedito la completa chiusura dei cespi per agevolare l'emissione degli steli specialmente nella "Great lakes 118"
