Soil moisture determination to obtain a non destructive determination of plant water status in durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.)

英语. To verify if gravimetric non destructive determination of soil moisture may be predictive of leaf water status two experiments have been conducted in a growth chamber. Plants of durum wheat ("Capeiti 8" cv.) have been used, that have been subjected to different drought stress conditions, during plant growth cycle. Soil moisture has been estimated by weighing the pot, while leaf water status has been determined by water potential and relative water content measurements. Leaf water potential has been affected by soil moisture content, plant growth stage, mode of drought stress inducement and drought intensity. With a good approximation, it is possible to estimate the leaf water potential (but not the RWC) by weighing the pot for soil moisture humidity greater than 20%; however it is necessary to construct the relationship: leaf water potential-pot humidity for the examined growth stage and stress type

Sono stati condotti due esperimenti in condizioni controllate per verificare se la determinazione gravimetrica e non distruttiva dell'umidita' del suolo potesse essere predittiva dello stato idrico delle foglie di frumento. Sono state utilizzate piante della varieta' "Capeiti 8" sottoponendole a diversi tipi di deficit idrico, in diverse fasi del ciclo di crescita. L'umidita' del suolo e' stata stimata pesando il vaso, mentre lo stato idrico delle piante e' stato determinato misurando il potenziale idrico fogliare ed il "relative water content" (RWC). Il potenziale idrico e' risultato influenzabile dal contenuto idrico del suolo, dalle modalita', dalla intensita' con cui e' insorto il deficit idrico e dall'eta' delle piante. E' possibile stimare, con buona approssimazione, il potenziale idrico fogliare (ma non il "relative water content") pesando il vaso, quando il deficit idrico non e' molto intenso; tuttavia e' necessario costruire una curva: potenziale idrico-umidita' del vaso per ogni stadio fenologico e tipo di stress che si intende sperimentare
