First observations on the biology of Oligonychus bicolor (Banks) (Acari, Tetranychidae) in the chestnut growing area of the Cimini mountains (Viterbo, Latium - Italy)

英语. This paper reports observations on the biology of the tetranychid mite Oligonychus bicolor (Banks), carried out in the year 1993 in a chestnut grove in the province of Viterbo. The first generation of the tetranychid lasts about 5-6 weeks starting from the beginning of May. Thereafter, all instars are simultaneously present on the leaves, and generation overlap. The maximum tetranychid density (444.4 individuals/100 sq. cm of leaf surface) was observed in mid-June. Although these mites did cause extended leaf discoloration, no defoliation occurred with the observed population densities. Moreover, from the month of June onwards, the predators Euseius finlandicus (Oud.) (Acari, Phytoseiidae) and Stehorus punctillum Weis. (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) were detected

意大利语. Nel presente lavoro vengono riportate osservazioni sulla biologia dell'acaro tetranichide Oligonychus bicolor (Banks) condotte nell'anno 1993 in un castagneto situato in provincia di Viterbo. Il tetranichide svolge la prima generazione in circa 5-6 settimane a partire dall'inizio di maggio. Successivamente sono presenti sulle foglie contemporaneamente tutti gli stadi di sviluppo e le generazioni si sovrappongono. La massima densita' del tetranichide (444.4 esemplari/100 cmq di superficie fogliare) e' registrata alla meta' di giugno. Nonostante questi acari abbiano causato diffuse decolorazioni fogliari, non si e' verificata filloptosi alle densita' di popolazione rilevate. Sono stati rinvenuti inoltre, a partire dal mese di giugno, i predatori Euseius finlandicus (Oud.) (Acari, Phytoseiidae) e Stethorus punctillum Weis. (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae)
