Cv. Ladino was compared with a 'naturalised' strain grown from seed collected from a low-P soil in northern New South Wales, at 4 levels of P. Ladino yielded higher at all P levels, though its relative response to added P was much lower; indices of P efficiency gave various comparisons, but generally favoured Ladino. It is suggested that the naturalised strain is adapted to low P conditions by way of an inherently lower growth rate, and therefore demand.
