Comparative phosphate requirements of yellow serradella (Ornithopus compressus), burr medic (Medicago polymorpha var. brevispina) and subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum)
1990
Paynter, B.H. (Western Australian Dept. of Agriculture, Merredin. Dryland Research Inst.)
In pot experiments with 2 deficient soils, it was found that yellow serradella required less applied P to achieve 90 percent maximum shoot or total growth, and had greater curvature coefficient from fitted Mitscherlich functions than either the clover or the medic. Burr medic had the greatest requirement for applied P and responded most to it. The differences were related to the species' ability to absorb and transport P through roots to shoots.
