The influence of the variety on seed yield of amaranth (Amaranthus)

The yield performance of four varieties: Amaranthus hypochondriacus 1008, A. hypochondriacus K 372, A. cruentus 17-GUA, A. cruentus 29-USA was investigated in field trials. Seed yield, stand density and height, inflorescence length and its height above ground, 1000 seed weight, crude protein and amino acid content were determined. Among varieties A. cruentus 17-GUA was the best with the greatest yield of 3.29 t.ha-1 what is significantly more than the lowest yield (2.56 t.ha-1) of A. hypochondriacus K 372.
