Factors involved in producing cashmere fibre for the best economic return include value and quality of fleeces, surplus stock for sale, production costs, etc. A breeding programme based on genetic information on the major fleece, liveweight and reproductive characteristics of the flock will enhance profitability. This paper discusses the genetic information which will assist in estimating the breeding value of the stock.
