Testing wheat accessions from the gene bank of the Research Institute for Crop Production Prague-Ruzyne for stem and leaf rust resistance

Response of 81 winter wheat cultivars from the gene bank Prague-Ruzyne at the 1-2 leaf stage to four stem rust and four leaf rust races and in the field to one stem rust race (11) and one yellow rust race virulent to Yr9 in the greenhouse was tested. In several cultivars reactions to yellow rust race avirulent to Yr9 were tested. According to reactions to stem rust and leaf rust in the greenhouse, 65 cultivars were grouped into 11 groups based on comparison of their reaction pattern with reaction patterns of cultivars with known genes. Sixteen cultivars were susceptible to both rusts, five of them had a part of plants resistant to two races of stem or leaf rust. A higher number of samples was resistant to stem rust than to leaf rust.
