Effectiveness of insecticides in hop aphid (Phorodon humuli) control in laboratory conditions

The efficacy of insecticides in the control of hop aphid (Phorodon humuli) was tested in the Czech hop-growing regions. Pyrethroids used almost exclusively in the 80s in hop protection against hop aphid do not reach such an efficiency to be recommended methodologically for practical hop protection against this pest. The tendency of reduction in efficiency of diazinon, the preparation from the group of thiophosphates which was a decisive aphicide above all at the turn of 80s and 90s, is evident. The same applies to methidathion which seems to be also unreliable. On the contrary, very good results were obtained with carbosulphane which were confirmed also in field conditions. From the point of view of hop protection strategy against hop aphid this preparation from the group of derivatives of carbamide acid can be recommended in dependence on the onset and flight intensity of P. humuli winged forms from primary host plants of Prunus genus to hop from the end of May to mid June. In hop yards intended for export into USA imidacloprid (Confidor 70 WG) becomes the key aphicide which is recommended to be applied (with respect to its systematic effect) in the third decade of June to cover the period from the end of migrantes alatae flight to the harvest.
