The paper presents a historical view of the development of marine sciences in Lebanon. The list of references is not exhaustive (280 titles), and some of the older references have been cross-referenced since it was not possible to obtain original copies. However, all attempts have been made to include in the bibliographic list the most important references from Lebanon, together with a few references from the region that have always been available to local scientists
