Two field experiments viz. Farmers' field varietal trial (FFVT) and pre-production verification trial (PPVT) on tori were conducted at fourteen and eight sites respectively in the winter season of 1993. Outreach research (OR) and off-station research (OSR) sites ranging from 350 to 2150 m in the western hills were the testing sites used for the experiments. The objective of the FFVT was to select the best suited variety of tori for hill farmers' field conditions and to popularise the tori crop in the hills. Whereas the objective of the PPVT was to compare and varify the performance of Lumle Tori against farmers variety under different sources of fertilizers on seed and oil yield.
