The article deals with the analysis results of differently tended (highly thinned stand, medium thinned stand, control stand) Norway spruce tree plantations at a highly productive natural site (Abieti - Fagetum praealpinum aceretosum). Natural stand parameters were established by means of a control method. Great attention is paid to mechanical stability of forest stands and to the respond of function carriers to thinning. The mean slenderness value increases and the increment index is smaller in the forest stands where thinnings have been carried out. In a highly thinned forest stand, function carriers have greater mean measure values and increments. Tree crowns of higher quality and more living room are the consequences of heavy thinning.
