Effects of long-term fertilization and anthropogenic load on biomass and the incidence of some groups of microorganisms

The amounts of microbial biomass and the number of several groups of microorganisms have been determined in soil samples taken from the long-term fertilized soil sites which differ in their antrophogenic load (highly polluted area, medium polluted and relatively clean ones. Long term application of organic and mineral fertilizers increased the amount of microbial biomass in soil samples from all three localities. Total numbers of proteolytic microorganisms, spore-forming microorganisms and cellulolytic bacteria were not significantly different in fertilized and unfertilized soils. Numbers of actinomycetes, particularly of cellulolytic ones, and of oligotrophic bacteria were enhanced in soil samples from anthropogenically polluted areas.
