The specific objectives were to producte a complete ruminant diet where the use of locally available feed ingredients particularly sugarcane by-products is optimized; to evaluate the improvement in the nutritive value of bagasse through physical and/or chemical treatment; to demonstrate the use of such diets in practical farm systems; to evaluate currently available technologies for processing cellulosic materials for use in animal feeds, with specific reference to it adaptability to using local ingredients; to develop a processing and delivery system for feed manufacture based upon the use of bagasse; to develop a marketing and distribution system for the processed feeds.
