Tissue culture activities in the Caribbean community countries

Visits were made to Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. In each State, a review of the tissue culture facilities in operation was undertaken. In the course of the review, free and frank discussions were held with a number of scientists and administrators (annex 1) whose co-operation is acknowledged. St Lucia nor St Vincent was visited during the review, the team learned of proposals for developing tissue culture facilities in those Eastern Caribbean States. This report evaluates the current situation in relation to commercial potential and makes a number of recommendations.
