This paper deals with investigation of health condition and bark necrotic disease of trees of selective quality in a pure beech pole-stage stand. Differences in average defoliation degree and in mensurational characteristics of trees on partial study plots were minimal. Proportion of trees showing the highest degree of necrotisation was lower in the trees of selective quality than in the trees of unselective quality. Most infested trees were on the control plot. Thinning methods supporting the trees of selective quality influenced positively the qualitative and quantitative parameters of production.
