Quality of six diluents for turkey insemination based on the proportion of live spermatozoa, motility, resistance, survival and ten morphological indices of spermatozoa was compared. Lake's diluent, UKRNIP-6, modified glutamate diluent, Thyrode's solution, phosphate diluent, Litjen's and Horst diluent were used. It was found that ejaculate dilution negatively affected the morphology of spermatozoa and the proportion of live spermatozoa. From ten morphological indices it is sufficient to detect just the proportion of morphologically normal spermatozoa, number of spermatozoa with bent neck, number of morphologically abnormal spermatozoa or just some of them. Further morphological parameters, such as the number of dead spermatozoa and the number of neck deformations indicated a low variability between the diluents or they had a very low frequency: budded and disturbed head, spermatids and nonmature spermatozoa, acrosome deformations, twisted head and other deformations.
