The study concludes that both the smallholder and commercial sectors are efficient beef producers who can compete effectively in international markets. The situation with maize is more complex, linked with its high bulk for transporting. The conclusion is that Zimbabwe should neither rely on maize imports for national requirements nor earmark large quantities for export unless within the region.
